Exclusive Interview: Alex Glanzer

Thursday, November 24, 2005 (Thanksgiving)

It's been a crazy year for brother Alex Glanzer.  His hard work in football was all for naught, and his team went 0-8.  He won his Student Council election and became president.  He celebrated a year with girlfriend Ann Poppen.  He debated on which college to attend next fall.  How is he coping with the insanity?

All-time, where does this Thanksgiving rate for you?
Umm, I would say somewhere in the middle since I don’t remember early Thanksgivings. It was a long trip down [to Vermillion], and it was kind of boring.

You are nearly halfway done with your senior year of high school. Explain exactly what is going through your head as the clock ticks downward on your youth.
School sucks, and I don’t ever want to go back to Willow Lake School after this year for any reason. Other people come back to visit. I don’t want to for any reason. Footnote, people who take the ACTs more than twice are stupid.

Have any decisions been made on a college or trade school?
Well, the North Dakota State College of Science located in Wahpeton, North Dakota, is the college of choice at this point.

You were recently named homecoming king, captain of the football team, and student council president. Are your classmates fed up with you for hogging all the honors?
Well, I think they are indifferent. I don’t think they really care.

Tell us how many current classmates have been with you since you began school in 1993.
About ten (of twelve).

You recently celebrated a year together with Ann Poppen. What is your secret?
I have none.

You claim you can “kick my ass.” How much can you bench these days?
Well, these days, since I haven’t lifted weights in three months, I went down to 320. But I still think that’s plenty enough to kick your ass.

How is it possible that you can buy and sell so many vehicles without having a paying job?
Loans from Father.

If you go off to college next fall, will you actually pursue a job? Or will you be a Jerry Seinfeld-type person who never experiences working for anyone?
No, I would be pursuing a job.

What was the highlight of your recent 0-8 football season?
Well, one was the Redfield game where I had my career-high of nine tackles. Another was Nathan’s interception that I would have been able to catch had Nathan not been standing right in front of me. The third one would be the Roncalli game in which Drew and the opposing coach got into a verbal argument on the field during an injury.

Will the Willow Lake boys’ basketball team win a game in 05-06?

Yes, I expect them to win several, seeing as how Curwin cannot play anyone as bad as he did last year. The players last year were horrible, so anyone he puts in this year are already better than all of last year.

Why aren’t you on the basketball team when you claim you have the skills of an Adonal Foyle-type player?
Well, because basketball isn’t my cup of tea. I don’t like to run, and I considered going out for basketball but told it was a waste of my time because I wouldn’t be able to play on varsity or J.V.

Who is the greatest coach of a pro sports team of all-time?
Well, as much as I would like to say Lou Piniella, he abandoned the Mariners. Instead, Tony LaRussa is a pretty good manager. But then again, Rick Carlisle did turn the Pistons around a few years ago, so perhaps him.

What were your thoughts on being the designated driver for Carpenter Bash 2005?
Well, I had no problem with it. I was happy that Nathan could join me. But the Bash 2005 did not live up to expectations. Carpenter Bash 2004 was much better. For one, the foreign people kind of annoyed me. I liked Travis better.

Who from your school do you think visits my site the most? Do any teachers visit?
Daniel Virchow. It’s not a matter of thinking; it’s a matter of knowing. I doubt any teachers visit it.

How is the band these days with Mr. Ehrke still at the helm?

Our band sucks for the most part, but Mr. Ehrke just bought me a brand new $45 mouth piece.

*By the way, Alex tells me his PS2 with 15 games is for sale.  He was hoping for $200.  I offered $28 for the package.  Make Alex an offer at a_glanzer@hotmail.com.
