Some
of the regular visitors to the site may not know who you are. How might
we best know Ann Poppen?
Boy you’re sure asking the right person!!!
How long have you and Alex been a "hot little couple," as the
tabloids are stating it?
Surprisingly enough, a LOT of people, even relatives, ask me this
question…so I am a little astounded to see it here as well…We
technically started “dating/going out” on September 27, 2004; because
Alex didn’t want to ask me out on my birthday, which is September 23rd,
as he thought it was too cheesy a concept…
What are your feelings on being done with Willow Lake School forever?
As clichéd of a saying as it is high school really did go by fast… I’m
happy to be finished and on to something different
What was a typical day in the summer of 2006 for you?
Holy crap did I lead an exciting life this summer!! A typical day
for me would entail the following: waking up at around 8AM, showering,
putting on my extremely attractive denim work outfit all tour guides at
the super classy Ingalls Homestead tourist attraction are required to
wear, driving rather fast to work, arriving usually 5 to 7 minutes late,
giving visitors tours of the buildings, taking them on covered wagon
rides and explaining the “history of the Ingalls family”…pretty much
filling them up on all the gooey goodness of pioneer life, then leaving
DeSmet at 1:00 to head home, take another shower put my kickin’ scrubs
on and head to the Bryant Nursing Home to… well, I won’t divulge those
juicy job details to you, I get off there at 11, probably later because
I usually had to finish up the Apostolic girls’ work…then I went home,
talked to Alex for awhile then hit the hay to rest up for the next
day!!! Who wouldn’t want to be me, huh?!?!?
Where are you now attending college and what are you studying?
I am currently attending Jamestown College in Jamestown North
Dakota, and was planning on majoring in Criminal Justice/Pre-Law, but am
now considering a career in Social Work.
I understand you recently were an extra in a major motion picture
starring Vince Vaughn. Tell us about that experience.
Well, the casting director called me the night before they were
scheduled to start filming, so I headed to the big town of Carthage and
arrived later in the afternoon, where I was assigned an outfit that
resembled a Kindergarten teacher from 1990, we were then transported to
the bar, where we remained until 4 in the morning. We had to pretty much
repeat the same scene for the next 11 hours, I had to sit at the bar and
pretend to talk to the people around me, then this guy Kaley would come
over and we would move into the next room and jitterbug to Emile Hirsch
(playing Chris McCandless) jamming away on the piano, until Sean Penn,
who directs the film, called “Cut” and then do it all over again. I got
to talk a little bit with Vince Vaughn at the end of the night, he was
really nice and pretty damn funny, he’s a lot taller in person too. It
was an awesome time…The movie comes out in November of 2007 so watch for
me in the Carthage bar scene you might glimpse my face for 2.5
seconds!!!
Do you think you would have any idea who I was today if you and Alex
weren't together?
Oh definitely!! You were a pretty well known person in high school, and
Ashley Knock and I spent many a study hall the last couple of years
reading your website… Jason LaPlant’s antics always sent us into
hysterics.
What are your favorite and least favorite things about your first
couple weeks of college?
Well, it’s been pretty terrific to be independent and all that jazz, I
guess the orientation activities were kind of awkward, playing pass the
orange with your neck with someone you don’t know and such, plus the
whole having the shower closest to the door, so every time someone goes
in or out, the curtain flies open and exposes my showering self to the
whole hallway, is rather uncomfortable too…
What is the greatest TV show and movie of all-time?
I thought you’d never ask!! I LOVE the show “ Full House”…every time I
see that it’s on I stop whatever I’m doing and tune in…Seeing the Tanner
family makes my day a whole lot sunnier!! The greatest movie is a little
bit trickier, as I’m a nerd and watch a lot of movies, plus I have an
awkward sense of humor, so what I think is funny most people think is
simply retarded…I would have to say “Office Space” or “Major League”… In
my younger days though that answer would have been “The Spice World”
movie, as the Spice Girls were insanely popular, the girls in my class
even pretended to be the Spice Girls, I was Posh Spice, now better known
as Victoria Beckham, who has been the only Spice Girl to continue her
fame past the year 1999.
From the pictures I have taken, it appears you are actually a little
taller than Alex. Is this accurate? He’s actually a half of an inch
taller, we’ve had a lot of people measure us as we’re weirdly
competitive like that…but I kick his ass as I wear heeled shoes, I guess
if he really wanted to be taller he could buy himself some black pumps
and beat me that way…
What were some of the perks of having your uncle as the principal at
the school all those years?
Unfortunately, contrary to popular belief, I didn’t receive any special
treatment, I did get to go to their house during Driver’s Ed and eat TV
dinners, does that count?

Do you currently have a part-time job?
I actually applied for a job working in the child care department at the
local YMCA, so I get to pollute the future of America in North Dakota
now…!!!
Has anyone ever mistaken you for a celebrity?
Umm…not a celebrity, but a lot of people think that Julie Virchow and I
are sisters…kind of surprising
How closely do you pay attention to Major League Baseball?
I actually watch/listen to the Twins pretty religiously….partly because
that’s all the old people in the Nursing Home would watch…so I know the
Twins pretty well…other than that no.
Tell us a story involving you and a trip to the hospital.
Oh so many memories…I’ve been there a lot actually, a memorable one was
the summer of 2005 when I was really sick and no one could figure out
what was wrong with me, my Dad was convinced I was pregnant and that I
just wouldn’t admit to it. We were driving around DeSmet waiting for my
lab results and he was yelling at me to tell him if I was pregnant or
not…turned out it was a viral infection of some kind…it’s kind of funny
now that I think about it…but it was pretty awkward at the time
If I asked you to fix me up with someone you know, who would you
choose?
I am extraordinarily happy that you asked this question… you should have
your own talk show or something, cause you think of such good
questions…. I would pick my cousin Niki, as she just ended a
relationship and you two have very similar senses of humor, plus she’s
not opposed to drinking… so that would be a bonus…
Has the Glanzer family been a positive or negative influence on you,
being a pastor's daughter?
Well, it hasn’t had too adverse an effect on me…. Just kidding… I still
go to church weekly and Alex doesn’t so I guess we haven’t rubbed off on
each other too much in that respect.
Do you own an article of clothing that you would never in any
circumstance wear, yet it continues to hang in your closet?
Ummm… I have quite a few bridesmaids dresses from various weddings that
I’ve been in that I probably will never be ABLE to wear again, as I’ve
put on considerable poundage since the last time I had to wear them… and
I still haven’t gotten rid of them…Sentiment, perhaps?
Where would you most like to visit within the contiguous 48 states?
My parents have always wanted to take me to Hooker, Oklahoma, just
because they thought it was SOOOO hilarious that a town was named
Hooker.. maybe there…. I haven’t been to the West Coast either, but I
hear it’s pretty crazy over there
How much fun was it crashing two wedding dances with me in the same
night?
It would have been better to have done the chicken dance or “The Train”
or something intimate like that, but it was pretty awesome, the most fun
I’ve had in Huron for some time to be sure
What is your fondest memory from your stay at my apartment in May?
Well, playing that game with you and some of your closest friends was
ridiculously crazy fun… Looking through your drawers later after you
left for work was probably an even better time… we found a lot of random
things in your kitchen drawers.
When is the last time you went on a real picnic, where you took a
basket and blanket and ate in the wilderness?
Probably with Ahna Van Heukelom in about third grade. We thought it
would be awesome to take a blanket and sit down by the Dexter and eat
crackers and jelly… the best picnic that I can recall
What music artists tickle your funny bone?
Well, all the songs off of the movie “Office Space” make me giggle to no
end…not sure who sings them though
Who will be our next president?
I personally would pick Condolezza Rice, that way we would kill two
birds with one stone by having the first woman and first black
president, not that that stuff matters, but it might be good to get that
out of the way, other than that I might consider Tom Daschle, just
because he seems to dominate politics or Ashley Knock, simply because it
would piss her off, as she hated being the president of our Senior
class…
Finally, how annoyed are you with people who confuse "your" and
"you're"?
On an annoyance scale of 1 to 10 I would have to say I’m at about a 7…it
really does bother me, especially when it’s Mr. Tonak, our high school
Ag teacher, doing that because he minored in English!!!
Thanks for joining us today, Ann. Any closing remarks?
I’m very happy to finally receive the honor of answering one of your
interviews…. Should I start stretching and practicing now for one of
those 500 or 1,000 question ones?? |
