Christopher Walsh: Exclusive Interview

Friday, April 27, 2007

Although we graduated from the same class at Dakota State, it wasn't until our move to the Twin Cities that I got to know Chris Walsh.  After dozens of Twins games attended, bars hopped, and lesbian roller girls hit on together over the last year, it's time we get to know our pal Walsh a bit better.

Hello Mr. Walsh, how are you today?
I am happy & a little tired. Me compared to usual days, Im having the longest week of my life.

Tell us about your exciting job at Multitech.
I am a Major Account Representative for the western USA and the entire country of Canada. I work with OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) and System Integrators to help guide them towards installing remote monitoring devices in equipment that they sell/support. Secondly, I also work with cellular carriers, namely Verizon Wireless, Cingular/ATT, Alltel, Rogers Wireless, Bell Mobility, T-Mobile to train them on selling cellular wireless modems for remote connectivity. Thirdly, I monitor industrial distribution customers of Multi-Tech to ensure they are stocking levels that are at a consistent turnover of 8 per year (45 days of inventory on a three month moving POS average).

Seems you've been on the road a lot for your job. What is the best city you've traveled to?
The most enjoyable trip I have had was to Philadelphia. Probably due in part that I had an entire day to myself while I was out there, and took the SEPTA train to downtown and got to sightsee and drink beer in really old pubs at 1 in the afternoon.

What city would you prefer to not visit again?
Little Rock, AR or Orlando, FL. Sure Orlando has nice weather, but it is so spread out that you are confined to your hotel and you feel like you are in prison getting bused back and forth to trade shows, then back to the concentration camp they call a Marriott. Little Rock is dirty, depressing, and full of lesbians.... I hope it falls into the river.

Word on the street is you've been given a promotion of sorts at work. Guess you won't be leaving the Twin Cities anytime soon, eh?
I did entertain the idea of moving on to other job opportunities, but yes, I was recently shown some extra love from Multi-Tech. Every day brings new responsibilities and hardships, and I am happy to say that my employer appreciates me and has given me job security.

You have roomed up with longtime DSU companion Bradley Feeney. How have you two gotten along?
He stinks and I don't like him. Ok I lied, it has been great and the townhome is setup where we have our own space if needed. Coal-train is a fun kid, and he just bought a new TV to play with.

We've made it to dozens of Twins games the past two seasons. How many games do you plan to attend this year?
My goal is to outpace 30 this year. Thus far in April, I have hit 4
Twins games and 1 Royals game in Kansas City. The ability to keep up with a diehard such as the G-man would be an astounding honor in dedication. If Ponson continues to pitch horribly, I may protest his outings in the aspiration of reviving Mr. Garza and Kevin Slowey to the bigs.

What was your most memorable Twins game attended?
I have to say, even though last year was an incredible year, to see a super base running error by the Devil Rays and to see Morneau hit a walk-off homerun the 9th inning to punish them for it was delicious.

A large portion of our adventures together seem to involve the
consumption of alcohol. What is your favorite drunken memory we've experienced?
Funniest memory was our sorrow drowning after the Twins were ousted from the playoffs in 2006 and the events that followed that night before I left for Las Vegas. I wont go into detail, but it involved overweight Derek Jeter fans. Also the Chatterbox commercial taping was a classic. Even though our careers never really got started, I think a behind the scenes look at the taping and drunkenness that the directors had to endure on account of our belligerence, it would make for a good "E! True Hollywood Story".

What would be your favorite drink?
J&B Rare Scotch on the rocks, or a beautiful pint of The Pabst Blue Ribbon.

Many readers of the website may not know that you actually are a father.  Can you tell us about your son?
Dominic Christopher Walsh, born August 4th, 1999. Incredible little man with the sports talent of a Michael Johnson, the twig-like body build of his father, a great personality, and the brains of a Rhodes Scholar.  Because of circumstances beyond my

control we have been living in different cities since I went to college, but I raised him for the first year, waking in the middle of the night for feedings, diaper changes, working fulltime while trying to finish my senior year of high school, and I wouldn't give back that year for anything.

Do you ever miss DSU at all?
Short answer yes because of the experiences and people I met while there, but I don't miss being broke, constantly missing deadlines, and being the laughing stock of the state university system because of the "nerdlike" reputation of the school.

What is the best current show on TV?
30 Rock, hands down. Could potentially be one of the funniest sitcoms ever to appear on television.

On many occasions, we've sung our lungs out at karaoke. What song(s) can you always count on to rock the house?
I usually try to win over the older folks with some smooth Al Green - Let's Stay Together. But when I am feeling frisky, I can jam with some Green Day - Longview.

How often do you get back to your hometown of Watertown, SD?
Once a month typically. Since the travel schedule for work has been a bit hectic, it has been nice to stick around Minneapolis on a weekend to reboot my system.

Another interesting fact few may be aware of is that we opposed each other in high school basketball when I played for Willow Lake and you were at Great Plains Lutheran. What was your crowning achievement in high school basketball?
What's funny is all I remember about the Willow Lake basketball team was that we actually could compete against you when normally we got blown out the door, and I also remember the tall guy playing center (who I learn in subsequent years is The Ryan Glanzer). Crowning achievement was playing against Bristol my freshman year. Bristol always sucked, but they had that Jason Lutz kid that carried the team. Freshman year, I was removed from my usual 6th man position and put in to start the game. I conquered Bristol's 1-3-1 zone with my 5'3" frame at the age of 14 with no hair under my arms, and set-shot a then "school record" for threes in a game after going 6-7 from the arc, scored 19 points and dished 6 assists in a losing effort. But it still kicked ass.

What has been your most disappointing moment in the last year?
Since I had a self-proclaimed great year, the Twins disappointing finish was hard to swallow. My only other really disappointing situation is when I stopped shopping at Cub Foods, and I realized that the "Baja Café" Bean & Cheese burritos are EXCLUSIVE to Cub Foods only. Why cant I have the God damn freedom to shop where I please and still score those delicious bundles of flavor??? WHY!??????

There's been talk of a summer trip, somehow baseball related. What would be your ideal realistic trip for this summer?
I booked a trip to San Diego to hang with my brother over Memorial weekend and catch a Padres game, but my ideal trip would be to hang in the Bronx and mix it up with the Yankees fans over a Twins series. I probably won't make it to NYC for work, so I better do it soon.

Are there any young ladies in your life?
Tentatively yes, barring some unforeseen change in plans. She has more tattoos than I have brain cells, kicks ass in billiards, and wears plaid pants on a daily basis. She just may be a Godsend

Is there a girl you perhaps fooled around with in the past that you are ashamed to mention today?
I don't regret it, but yes, ashamed to brag about it.

What is one question you'd like to ask me right now and get a straight answer?
What is the oldest item in your fridge? I am usually scared to ask, but I think this would be an eye-opening battle down to the packaged hour of old, moldy goods.

Had you asked me prior to Saturday when I dumped five jugs of chocolate milk dating back to November, I would have had a more interesting answer.

Well thanks for your time today. Any closing remarks?
Ryan Glanzer, your literary & artistic skills amaze me.

Ryan Trivia: Has consistently weighed in between 261 and 265 for the last six months.
