Exclusive Interview: Krista Sullivan

Monday, October 3, 2005

Part 2 of our 3-part Valleyfair interview series "Beyond Goblet Pitch" continues, as we have a candid conversation with 2005 supervisor Krista Sullivan.  Krista is currently a student at St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN, and a three-year Valleyfair Games veteran.

Hello Krista, how are you today?
I'm just great, thanks. I've just been doing laundry and procrastinating on the studying, and it's been beautiful. I didn't even brush my teeth until four today... ok that's too much information.

Valleyfair 2005. Sum it up.
I'd have to go with: A learning experience. For many reasons it wasn't the best summer of my life, but I still had lots of good times at work. I learned quality career skills, which is a plus, and it's always fun to be with the vf crew. I'd have to say the highlight of my summer was Cedar Point, what a good time that was. I only have love for you valleyfair games employees. Love.

What was the hardest part of your job as supervisor?
Trying to be good at it! It's difficult to find a balance between making sure people are having fun and that they are also getting something done without stressing yourself and others out too much. I don't think that sentence makes any sense to humankind, but I have no other way to put it.

People say you will be the next Matt Thompson. What do you think of that statement?
I'd say that's crap. I could never aspire to be Matt Thompson, and since my time at Valleyfair is over, I don't see how that could be possible. I guess I could schedule an appointment with a plastic surgeon and see what I can do.

You worked with fellow St. Scholastica student Taylor Clark this summer. Did you two know each other before Valleyfair or is that where you met?
Oh, I met little Taylor long before I met any of you Valleyfair people. We first met many moons ago at our college orientation, and soon learned that our many similarities (aka love of Harry Potter and our musical tastes) destined us for best friendship and roommateship. I actually referred her for the job at vf, and we are both anxiously awaiting that bonus check.

Are you and Joe Allen still a hot little couple?
The hottest of hot. Pretty sure we beat Ashton and Demi in the hottest couple of 2005 award. It's been hot.

Have you continued to practice the rubiks cubs after placing nationally last year?
Naturally! Funny you should ask, because Joe and I are actually planning on going to the world rubik's cube tournament in Orlando the first weekend in November. I'm really looking forward to it, and I'm going to try with everything I have to take a picture with Shotaro Makisumi, the all-time world champ! I have been practicing and so far my best time is 27 seconds! Make sure you check out speedcubing.com mid-November for our results.

What is the best TV show on the air these days?
Golden Girls!!! Although, Lifetime has decided to be jerks and cut its air time in half. HALF. why god why. This year I've gotten into more shows that my roommates watch, and I've really enjoyed watching Reunion after the O.C. I also watch those cheesy shows on MTV like Super Sweet Sixteen and Date My Mom. We all must have our guilty pleasures.

When is the last time you've laughed really hard?
Oh jeez, last night my roommate Alicia showed us a minute long video online that was full of people falling in hilarious ways and I think a little pee came out.

What celebrity would you most like to see make out with Jason LaPlant?
Dick Cheney. No explanation needed.

If you had to pick your wedding party right now, who would get to be the bridesmaids?
By bridesmaid, you mean personal slave, correct? Good, because then my sister Megan would be my maid of honor, no questions asked. Then I would also have my two other sisters, Katie and Cailin. I would have to go with two friends from New Prague that I will always truly love, Bridget Bisek and Danielle Harty. Finally, Taylor Clark would be oh-so-lucky to be there too.

What is the most romantic thing you've done for Joe Allen?
Either the time I punched his dog in the face or attempted to burn down his house, it's a toss up. I wish I was a more romantic person so that I'd actually have something to say here. There was one time that I made him dinner as a surprise on one of his trips to Duluth. However, I'm a terrible cook and we ended up throwing the baked potatoes off of the balcony because they were as hard as rocks... so I don't know if that counts, and it wasn't very romantic or original to begin with. Sorry you picked a terrible girlfriend, Joe.

What are the odds we'll see Krista in a supervisor uniform in 2006?
Roughly, I'd say 1:8952. I haven't ruled out coming back for a few weeks in a different position, but as I will hopefully start grad school in the beginning of July here in Duluth, I will be unable to return as a sup. That means that there will be one dead sexy supervisor uniform, complete with a bow-tie, waiting for some lucky team lead!

What is your take on smoking?
I will not lie: I like the way smoke smells alot. I think it's because my Grandpa Bob smokes and it reminds me of him. That aside, I'm not a huge fan but I'm not greatly opposed to it either. I don't do it, but to each their own, there are plenty of worse habits to have.

What is your favorite memory from this summer involving Brandon Brockway?
Does watching him leave count? Because that was the second best feeling of my life (after finishing physics II last year). I'd go with the day after he termed, because he just kept showing up at Valleyfair, even though he had termed and I was certain I'd never be graced with his presence again. That day, he called me in the outer and told me that I should come tell the security guard he could come in without his ID and without being an employee (which I couldn't do, p.s.). Needless to say, I didn't let him in but i still saw him approximately 29 times that day. Don't get me wrong, I was SUPER happy about it.

Who is the worst speller you know?
Kristy, another roommate (I pretty much don't know anyone besides my roommates at college). I love her and desperately hope she never sees this, but seriously... learning to spell the easy words in English is always a good plan.

Thanks for joining us here at ryanglanzer.com, Krista. Any closing remarks?
Well, thanks for having me and I hope you all got so many valuable insights from this interview. Have a great year mofos!
