Interview with Lauren Poulter
Monday, February 16, 2009
In her first public interview since January 2008, Lauren talks about our upcoming October wedding, turning 25, moving in less than two weeks, and plans to travel the world in the near future.
Hello Lauren, how are you today?
I'm doing well! I am taking a very late lunch (it is 1:15) because I was working very, very hard this morning and barely noticed the time flying by.
What are your thoughts and feelings as we're just under nine months away from the wedding date?
I'm getting really excited for it. I'm very tense about finding a church location for the actual ceremony, I think that once that piece is nailed down I will be very happy and stress-free. Ha!
What sort of planning have you accomplished so far for the wedding?
Well, WE have picked out a reception hall and a photographer, the wedding party is locked up, and we have a tux place for you and the other guys. We've gone to a cake tasting and a floral consultation, with varying degrees of success (that florist was kind of an ass). The only stuff I've been doing on my own, really, is wedding dress stuff. I'm sure I think about wedding stuff WAY more than you do, though, and I know I have lots of little ideas that I haven't told you about it because either I don't think you will care or they haven't come up.
If cost were no factor, where would you most want to go for the honeymoon?
If cost AND time weren't a factor, I'd want to go all over the world! Take 6 months and see India, Thailand, Egypt, all of Europe… seriously, everywhere! That is the dream, that's what I would imagine we would do if we ever won the lottery. Fingers crossed! In all seriousness I would probably pick India! But I imagine if we just want to lay on a beach, we needn't spend all that money on airfare... we will definitely go to India and Thailand before we have children, however!
Why do you think they call it a honeymoon? The moon seems like only a small part of the trip.
I believe the 'honey' part is to do with the drink mead, which is fermented honey (it's like barley wine or cider I think) and the 'moon' part probably because it originally lasted a month.
What is going through your head as you approach your 25th birthday in just over a week?
Well, now I am 2 weeks past 25 and I feel pretty good. Not much seems to have changed, other than I got a new driver's license photo. My birthday was decidedly more low-key than it has been for a few years.
How excited or disappointed are you to be moving from our house in less than a month?
Excited! I will certainly miss the roomies, but I am looking forward to playing house with my future husband. I'm sure we will still see the Walshichettis plenty, and Nick, well, he's always up for racquetball I'd imagine.
What are the best and worst parts about moving?
Best is the excitement, going into a fresh place ready to create new memories. I hope that we can decorate some and make the place somewhat adult-like. I'm excited for you to do some paintings!! Worst is obviously packing. I am a pack rat and always have been, there are so many things that I have dragged across North America that I don't ever use or look at, but when I think about throwing them away I get all sentimental!
Will you miss having a beagle and farm cat in the new place?
Farm cat, no. Beagle, yes. Roscoe was always good for a laugh and you know how I am with dogs… can't get enough of 'em! You're lucky that the new building doesn't allow dogs or we'd be getting one.
Is it just me, or are you ready for baseball to start back up again?
BASEBALL!!!!!!!!!!!! :) :) :) Duh.
Obviously we will be saving our pennies for the wedding, but there have been talks of other minor trips and fun this year. What sorts of fun are you looking forward to in 2009?
Chicago will be rockin', I'm sure, and there will DEFINITELY be a Toronto trip by summer's end!!!
How is the new job going at Supervalu headquarters?
It's going well! I like it, everyone's nice and they LOVE me. What can I say, I am a rock star…
How would you describe yourself in general in the workplace?
I'm pretty quiet, I keep my nose to the grindstone but I'm always around if people need help. I probably come off as standoffish but it's really just shyness.
Did you enjoy our recent trip to Las Vegas?
Heck yeah! It was fun and the nice weather definitely lifted my spirits. We should go back!
How come it's difficult to persuade you to leave earlier in the mornings so I'm not late for work? :)
Ugh, I hate mornings. I really need someone to drag me to bed at 10:30, at the latest, so that I get enough sleep. I could stay up until 2 am every night!
Are you done with blogging at Babes Love Baseball?
Nope! The winter's been pretty slow and not much has been worthy, in my mind, of crafting a clever post for BLB.
Are you annoyed with my cautious driving in the winter months?
Would you know that I was lying if I said 'no'? You are more cautious than I am and sometimes it frustrates me because you don't believe me when I say that you're clear to cross a street when you ask me.
When do you predict you'll be all caught up on student loan payments?
Have them all paid off? Oh, lord, it'll be decades probably.
Do you believe that Dexter is the best show on TV?
Yes! It makes me sad that some people don't give it a chance and stop watching after the first (rather violent) few minutes. Come on people, it's Shotime! What are you expecting? Oh and imitating the Sgt Doakes voice is probably the most fun thing ever.
Do you think we will complete our Best Picture viewing project? We have been bad about it lately.
Yes, we will. It will probably be a long-term project for the baseball off-season(s) but we'll do it and then we'll celebrate.
What is your favorite place to eat on Eat Street, or in our immediate neighborhood?
Tough question! I do love Jasmine Deli--chicken pho is the closest thing to a cure for the common cold. Black Forest Inn has the world's best patio. Azia has happy hour 7 days/week. They are all so wonderful. I'm going to miss them all.
We seem to be having troubles getting started on the Weight Loss Challenge! What do you think we need to do to get motivated?
I think I would do best in a crazy, intense class like the Boot Camp one they have at the YWCA. You wouldn't like that, though.
Do you have a good story involving you swimming?
Nothing comes to mind.
What is your earliest memory?
I remember standing in my crib, but I don't know how old I was. Probably quite young still.
If you won the Powerball, would you still go to work and put in your two-weeks notice, or would you just stop showing up?
It depends on how much I won, but I would probably work for a little while and be very ostentatious about money…. Show up in diamond-covered shoes and other ridiculous things.
What are your thoughts on soon gaining the Glanzers as in-laws?
I think I'm pretty lucky, as far as in-laws come. There are obviously differences between our two families, but I think they are more amusing than anything else. The Glanzers seem to like me, or at least they tolerate me, and that's all I can ask for! In all seriousness your family is pretty cool -- you obviously all have the same sense of humor, which isn't that far from my sense of humor so I think that bodes well for the future. Quick shout out to the Glanzers to say, thanks for the birthday card! You might be interested to know that you bought me 1000gr of silk yarn that is recycled from saris in Nepal off of eBay, which I thought was fitting. So thanks for the sweet bday present!
Thanks for joining us today Lauren, any closing remarks?
