1. Hello Sara, how are
you today?
Other than a little tired, pretty good.
2. When do you think the last time we saw each other was?
I honestly can't remember, but I don't think it's been since graduation,
has it?
You know, I think you stopped by my parents’ house once over a holiday
sometime during our freshman year in college. It seems strange that we
haven’t at least seen each other at a ball game or graduation or
something since then, but all I know is that it’s been a long time.
3. I've been able to piece together your last few years via Facebook,
but just to clarify, you went onto college at Tabor College after high
school, right?
Yep, you’ve got it. I spent 3 ½ years as a Tabor Bluejay and got a BA in
Biblical/Religious Studies.
4. And then you went to med school in Nebraska? Tell us about that.
Actually I went to nursing school, at the University of Nebraska Medical
Center here in Omaha where I now live, and I just graduated in May ‘07.
While I was at Tabor, I always kind of despised Nebraska, but now that I
live here and have friends here, it’s not so bad. It was kind of tough,
though, to trade in my SD license plates for NE ones. But I’m over it
now.
5. So what is your job now that college is all over and done with?
I work as an RN at the NE Med Center. I really love my job – and I’m
still especially enjoying being done with school. Typically I take care
of 4-5 patients a shift on a medical/surgical/heart monitor unit at our
hospital. I work three 12 hour shifts a week, and right now I’m working
all nights, 7pm-7am.
6. It seems much of the class of '01 is married or engaged. Are you
about to be included in that group?
You know, I’d be interested to see the actual statistics of who is
married our engaged out of our class. It certainly seems to be a growing
number! However, as far as I can tell right now, engagement and marriage
is not in my immediate future.
7. How often do you get back to the old stomping ground of Carpenter?
Every couple of months, I suppose. It seems like it should be more
often since I live fairly close. I try to make it home for holidays and
birthdays and special events. It’s nice to have a place to get out of
town and relax a little! Carpenter is usually pretty quiet. I plan to be
home for TG and Christmas. We should definitley try to get together.
8. Who from our class have you kept in closest contact with, and who
haven't you heard a word from?
Marianne, Jenn (Lamb) Keating, Angela, and Bobbie are probably the
ones I hear the most from. And actually have seen and talked to Ronnie
quite a few times since graduation. I don’t think I’ve seen or talked to
Jenica or Brandon E.
9. What are your current living arrangements? Do you have an
apartment or roommates?
I live in a townhouse in central eastern Omaha, arguably in or near
the ghetto, and have a roommate, Tracy, who is also a nurse.
10. What is your favorite memory from riding the good ol' 3A school
bus?
Oh my. Do you remember Stan Zantow driving the bus and selling us
candy? Perhaps one of my most embarrassing moments happened on that bus.
In third or fourth grade Derek Opsahl was really teasing me and making
me mad, and I just shouted at him across the bus “Knock it off you big
stud muffin!” thinking stud muffin was a really mean and derogatory
term.
11. You certainly have a very Christian background. What is one bible
verse you would recommend I memorize?
Hmmm. Now that’s a good question. One of my favorites is Psalm 33:20-22,
but I’d recommend rather than memorizing one verse, you read all of
them. The Bible is the best selling book of all time (so I’ve heard) and
claims to be the very Word of God to everybody on earth. Lots of people
have opinions about it, while few have actually read it. Maybe you could
put a weekly Bible verse on your website? ;)
12. Seen any good movies lately?
You know, I haven’t really. I’m excited for Christmas, though,
because our family usually sits down and watches that great Christmas
classic – Elf.
13. Have you done any exciting traveling lately? Didn't you once go
to South America?
I went on a medical missions trip to Mexico over Spring break. And I
recently got back from exciting Oklahoma for a friend’s wedding.
14. Do you miss your athletic days when Willow Lake girls' basketball
was the most dominant team in the state?
Sometimes that seems like it was such a long time ago. Though it was
fun to be a winning team, I got burned out by all the pressure, and was
glad when it was over. I like playing pick up games now, and have
occasionally stopped in to see the girls practice. Still proud to be a
Pirate.
15. Is there any exciting news from the rest of the Waldner family I
should be aware of?
Since Katie graduated from high school, my parents coped with the
empty nest syndrome by adopting 2 foreign exchange students for the
school year. Taka is from Japan and Emil is from Switzerland. They are
my first brothers, and are making Carpenter one of the most diverse
cities (per capita) in Clark Co.
16. What is your favorite current song?
“I Need You to Love Me” by Barlow Girl.
17. Tell us a funny story involving you or someone you know falling
down.
I’m thinking and thinking, but I really can’t think of a time. I
take care of patients who are in the hospital as a result of falling
down, but those stories aren’t very funny.
18. Have you ever been sunburned really bad?
Yes, several times. But since learning about all the dangers of skin
cancer in nursing school, I’m a little more apt to put on sunscreen.
19. What is one question you'd like me to answer right now?
Hmmmm…If you could change one thing about your life, past or
present, what would it be? (I’m glad you did ask me that one, I think
it’s hard.)
The first thing that comes to mind is I could have saved myself a lot
of time, hassle, and money if not for the events of the night of
September 2, 2007!
20. Thanks so much for joining us today Sara! Any closing remarks?
Thank you for interviewing me! It was a great time, and I’m honored
to be on your most excellent website. Hopefully we’ll break our long
stint of not seeing each other very soon. Take care!
