Top 100 Movies of All-Time Countdown

The list for my top 100 movies was a lot more difficult to come up with than
my list of songs or TV shows.  There are a ton of really popular movies
I've neglected to see over the years, and a lot of obscure ones I have seen.
Hopefully I didn't forget any favorites, though that seems very likely.

MOVIES #41-60

Meet Me in St. Louis (1944)

Starring:
Judy Garland
First Saw It: Shortly after I was in the musical in 2004.
Memorable Moment: Well, since I played the role of John Truitt, I had to watch and see how much better I acted the part than Tom Drake.
42
Welcome to the Dollhouse (1995)
Starring:
Heather Matarazzo
First Saw It: I saw it with a group of people including Liz, Patrick, and Jason in the summer of 2004 at our St. Louis Park apartment.
Memorable Moment: Like all the other good Todd Solondz movies, the loose storyline and awkward sexual moments stand out.
43
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005)

Starring:
Robert Downey, Jr., Val Kilmer
First Saw It: With Patrick at his parents' house in the summer of '06.
Memorable Moment: One of my favorite quotes ever from a movie. "Look up 'idiot' in the dictionary. You know what you'll find?"  "Uh, a picture of me?"  "No, the definition of the word 'idiot,' which is what you are!"
44
Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004)

Starring:
Will Ferrell, Christina Applegate
First Saw It: In the Edina theater in 2004.
Memorable Moment:
I hated it the first time I saw it.  But it grows on me every time I see it now.  The whole Afternoon Delight sequence is good.
45
Death to Smoochy (2002)
Starring:
Robin Williams, Edward Norton
First Saw It: I think Jason had this and we watched it in Madison.
Memorable Moment:
It changed my perception of Edward Norton... wasn't really a fan before this movie.
46
Fargo (1996)
Starring:
William H. Macy, Steve Buscemi
First Saw It: Another one from Jason's once-huge collection.
Memorable Moment:
I thought this was based on a true story and couldn't believe it was being called "dark humor."  Many people were killed!  But then someone told me it wasn't based on anything true.
47
Knocked Up (2007)
Starring:
Seth Rogen
First Saw It: In the Eden Prairie theater last night.
Memorable Moment:
Judd Apatow did it again with his usual ensemble.  Hilarious movie with some R-rated moments and still a touching story.
48
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)
Starring:
Jim Carrey, Kate Winslet
First Saw It: Either Jason bought it or I rented it, but it was in Madison.
Memorable Moment:
I remember thinking how it would be hard to write such a complex movie like that.  There was a lot of stuff happening.
49
The Notebook (2001)
Starring:
Rachel McAdams, Ryan Gosling
First Saw It: Again, this must have been something I either rented or Jason had.
Memorable Moment: This may be the least manly movie to put on my list, but it remains one of my favorite romantic movies ever.
50
Junebug (2005)
Starring:
Amy Adams
First Saw It: Jason left it behind when he moved out last summer.
Memorable Moment:
Of all movies on the list, this is the one where the least happened.  Literally.  There isn't much of a story.
51
The Green Mile (1999)
Starring:
Tom Hanks, Michael Clarke Duncan
First Saw It: Okay, maybe this was the last movie we saw as a family in the theater.
Memorable Moment:
There were a lot of memorable moments... Tom Hanks' bad prostates... the bastard at prison who didn't wet the sponge for the execution... the pet mouse.  Might be ranked higher if I had seen it more recently.
52
Bowling for Columbine (2002)
Starring:
Michael Moore
First Saw It: Guess what... another from the great Jason collection.
Memorable Moment:
Michael Moore and two wounded kids getting K-Mart to stop selling ammo in their stores.
53
Man on the Moon (1999)
Starring:
Jim Carrey
First Saw It: Another free Showtime weekend I think.
Memorable Moment:
The actual cast of Taxi reappearing.  That, and Andy Kaufman wrestling women.
54
School of Rock (2003)
Starring:
Jack Black
First Saw It: Recorded it on an HD channel late last year.
Memorable Moment:
I just remember going in expecting a bad movie, and it blew me away.  Very touching movie.
55
Nacho Libre (2006)
Starring:
Jack Black
First Saw It: In Sioux Falls last summer with Patrick, Feeney, and Jake.
Memorable Moment:
It was the third hardest I've laughed at a movie ever, seriously.  Jack Black sneaking into that party and pretending to be in the band was classic.
56
Fiddler on the Roof (1971)
Starring:
Topol, Norma Crane
First Saw It: Shortly after I was in Fiddler on the Roof in 2003.
Memorable Moment:
A few minor flaws in continuity, especially when Tevye is standing in a field with his daughter and they appear much further away from one scene to the next.
57
King Kong (2006)
Starring:
Jack Black, Naomi Watts
First Saw It: Eden Prairie theater last winter by myself one boring winter's night.
Memorable Moment:
I really was pretty amazed with the special effects.  The whole fight scene between King Kong and the dinosaur was pretty cool.  I also had a brief crush on Naomi Watts.
58
Meet the Parents (2000)

Starring:
Ben Stiller, Robert DeNiro
First Saw It: It might have been senior year at a school party of some sort.
Memorable Moment:
Some of Ben Stiller's best work.  Any minor thing he does wrong gets scrutinized to the tiniest detail.
59
Back to the Future II (1989)
Starring:
Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd
First Saw It: Most likely on TBS in the early 90s.
Memorable Moment:
I really wanted that sports almanac.  Of course now we know all the results, as that book only went up to 2000.
60
I am Sam (2001)
Starring:
Sean Penn, Michelle Pfeiffer, Dakota Fanning
First Saw It: Rented it over Christmas break 2001.
Memorable Moment:
Sean Penn played a mentally retarded man to a T.  Dakota Fanning's breakout performance.
