Top 100 TV Shows of All-Time Countdown
I'm going to
count down my top 100 songs of all-time, and better yet, I'm going
to write a little blurb about each song, and if applicable, give credit to the
person
who introduced me to it. Thanks to amazon.com for "letting" me steal these
album
images. I'll also help jog your memory by including a lyric sample from
each song.

21. "Coach," ABC, 1989-1997 The episodes where Hayden still coached at Minnesota State were hilarious. In later seasons in the NFL, the show tailed off. But few episodes of any TV show ever were funnier than when Luther, stuck in the hospital, tried to relay a message to Hayden about a trick play, and kept getting injured by doing so. |

22. "Family Matters," ABC, 1989-1998 A stupid show that only got stupider as the years went on, Family Matters was still funny enough to tune into (at least until the last couple seasons on CBS when they had to come up with a new Harriett Winslow). Jaleel White will be lucky to ever act again after portraying Urkel for so many years. |

23. "My Name Is Earl," NBC, 2005-present I never quite know what to make of Earl. I think it's a very funny show, but by comparison to some of its Thursday night NBC counterparts, it doesn't quite stack up. I think some episodes are awesome and others are forgettable. The good episodes are great; the bad ones are awful. |

24. "Saturday Night Live," NBC, 1975-present Here's a show that at times looks like it needs to be cancelled, and at other times you don't question how it's survived 32 years. Guys like Chris Farley, Phil Hartman and Will Ferrell can make the show phenomenal. But when there's a lack of quality stars, it's tough to watch. |

25. "South Park," Comedy Central, 1997-present Prior to college, I thought this was the stupidest show ever. I was a Simpsons guy, and South Park always went too far. But now I can watch the show and enjoy it. Who hasn't South Park offended yet? My favorite episode is still when Lemmiwinks the gerbil goes on an expedition into the gay man's intestines. |

26. "Baseball Tonight," ESPN, 1990-present Like SportsCenter, I'll only watch if the Twins won earlier that day. The only sports highlights I like to watch are baseball, so cutting out all the college basketball and NFL draft previews and tennis scores make Baseball Tonight so enjoyable. Get rid of John Kruk, limit Peter Gammons' airtime, and you got a hell of a highlight show. |

27. "Who's the Boss," ABC, 1984-1992 When TBS announced "Who's the Boss" would be in its weekday morning schedule circa 1996, I remembered how I had seen a handful of episodes when it was in its prime in the late 80s. I tried to rekindle some old time TV magic but never dreamt I'd become so hooked on that show. I ended up watching every episode on reruns years after it was cancelled. |

28. "30 Rock," NBC, 2006-present So much promise! 30 Rock needs to stay on the air, but NBC keeps jerking us around with its time slot. It's no Office or Scrubs, but it certainly holds up well in the Thursday night lineup. Alec Baldwin plays his part to a T. Tina Fey is way more attractive than she thinks. And Tracy Morgan is always hilarious. |

29. "Superstar USA," WB, 2004 I think even American Idol bashers like Nick and Patrick would have loved this show. A panel of judges sent the worst contestants on to the finals while ditching the good ones in an elaborate joke. The judges were so funny; they'd talk these bad singers up so much. If anyone ever sees this show on DVD, you must inform me at once. |

30. "That 70's Show," FOX, 1998-2006 That 70's Show is a steady, funny, but not stupidly funny show. It was always fun to watch, but never became a staple in my TV regimen. One night in college I watched an 8-hour marathon on FX and realized this show was better than I gave it credit for. The last season was a little weak, though. |

31. "The King of Queens," CBS, 1998-2007 A show that I used to make a point to watch was King of Queens. When I do manage to catch it now, I still find it very funny. Like That 70's Show, it was one of those "I'm happy to see it but not upset if I miss it" shows. |

32. "Trigger Happy TV," Comedy Central, 2000-2002 Perhaps the funniest show ever created. The gags with the giant animal costumes were priceless. It's my definition of humor: jokes with no point other than to confuse innocent people! A man walks into an office for an interview and people in giant bear costumes are walking around. It's insanely funny! |

33. "Kenan and Kel," Nickelodeon, 1996-2000 Another show Nickelodeon needs to get out onto DVD is K&K. Stupid? Yes. Poorly made? Definitely. Shoddy acting? You'd better believe it. But the show knew that it was stupid and almost mocked itself I think. That's when a stupid show can be appreciated. |

34. "Undeclared," FOX, 2001-2002 One season is all FOX could handle of this great show. What is it with FOX canceling its best, most promising shows? They did such a poor job of marketing Judd Apatow's "Undeclared," that I didn't even know it existed until it came out on DVD. |

35. "Hey Dude," Nickelodeon, 1989-1991 It's a little wild and a little strange when you make your home out on the range. Especially if you're a New York street tough like Buddy Ernst who comes to hid dad's dude ranch in the summer to work with an inexplicably small staff of six employees. It's where Christine Taylor got her big break! |

36. "E! True Hollywood Story," 1996-present I could watch an E! True Hollywood Story on absolutely anything. They take a show like Full House, break it into pieces, dig up the real dirt on the set, and put it together into a compelling documentary. This is the real history I want to hear about--how Seinfeld began. Not how America was founded! |

37. "Boy Meets World," ABC, 1993-2000 Oh, the cult following that surrounds Boy Meets World. Jason LaPlant and many other friends will tell you this was one of the top five TV shows ever made. I liked it, but not that much. Ben Savage was no Fred Savage. And Topanga was no Winnie... actually, she was. Never mind. It was Eric that made the show, though. |

38. "America's Funniest Home Videos," ABC,
1989-present I have so many funny videos I could have sent in and had make it to the air. Why didn't I ever do it? The best videos are always the 30-second montages of people falling down or being depantsed, set to music. The weekly winners are always the lamest videos. |

39. "Step by Step," ABC, 1991-1998 I was about at that age when the Step by Step girls were reason enough to tune in. Christine Lakin, who played Al, was my favorite. And Stacy Keenan from My Two Dads fame wasn't bad either. The show was usually pretty funny, but like other sitcoms, had its moments of "you expect me to believe that plot line?!" |

40. "Captain 11," KELO, 1955-1996 For nostalgia's sake only, Captain 11 has to make the list. One of the four shows on the Top 100 list that I've appeared on (Elimidate, Baseball Tonight, and SportsCenter round it out) I spent many days from 1985-1988 in front of the screen watching Sioux Falls' local weatherman open the toy chest. |
